Why should you choose postcard marketing in a world in which there would seem to be so many more technologically sophisticated alternatives, such as email marketing and Pay Per Click?

After all, when a lot of people think about postcards, they think about a 20th century world in which we didn’t email back our travel stories or upload that cheesy holiday snap to social media… instead, we sent a postcard.

Haven’t we moved on from all of that?

A widespread belief that the world has ‘moved on’ from postcards as a form of communication – for marketing purposes or otherwise – in many ways only contributes further to their effectiveness.

Target customers or clients love to feel that you care about them… really, really care about them, to the point of tailoring your marketing message to them.

Yes, you could do that with email, but will they even read that email?

If a postcard plops through their door, on the other hand, you can bet that they will almost definitely pick up that postcard and look at what it says. There’s something very direct and impactful about such a physical marketing form as a postcard, in an age in which seemingly everything is done in front of a screen.

With a postcard, the connection between it and the recipient is instant. There’s a reason why direct mail marketing like this has such an impressive success rate.

Develop a real relationship with your customer

The affordability of postcard printing and design services only gives you even greater freedom to customise your campaigns. Experiment a bit with slightly different messages and offers to different target audiences, and with the most intelligently assembled mailing list, you may even approach a 100 per cent success rate.

However, even receiving any old postcard is memorable, compared to all of that email spam that your customer will also be bombarded with on a day to day basis.

Whereas posters and flyers tend to only capture fleeting attention, a postcard is often kept, and even passed on or sent to other people.

So not only could your marketing message be more impactful and longer-lasting with postcards, but it could also reach a wider range of people. With the more personal touch that postcard marketing affords, you can hope for more meaningful and lucrative relationships with customers.

Don’t underestimate the postcard in direct mail marketing

Remember: postcards are simple, convenient and affordable for someone like you, even if you are the most modest one-man band of a business… and your customer doesn’t even need to go to the hassle of opening the postcard.

They simply need to look at it.

From there, great direct marketing results can be gained. It’s all about ensuring great design and the communication of the right values and advantages to your prospective customers.
